About

Stroopsoet is an Afrikaans word that means as sweet as syrup, i.e. very sweet and can be applied to either food or behaviour. So for example you can say: “This koeksister is stroopsoet” meaning, this weird South African treat has a ton of sugar in it or “I am stroopsoet” meaning: I am super “well-behaved”, wink-wink, nudge-nudge.

Stroopsoet is wearing whatever you want and not giving a rats bum what people think of it. Stroopsoet takes chances and tests boundaries. Stroopsoet, goes through the fence instead of over it (also what is a fence?). Stroopsoet is impulsive and a little bit reckless. Stroopsoet believes that we should own who we are and not make excuses for it. Stroopsoet is an 80 year old with hang tietties lying topless on a beach. Stroopsoet gives zero forks.

Stroopsoet believes that while living our best, “I will be whoever I want life” we should do this without negatively impacting others, we should give everyone (ourselves included) the freedom to let our freak flags fly. Let’s be Stroopsoet, make people laugh, laugh at ourselves and make the world a little bit happier.

Stroopsoet wants to minimize the impact of clothing and waste on the environment. We try to make use of organic cotton as much as possible and we only print your outfit when you place your order to avoid more dead stock landing up on landfills. So wear your Stroopsoet until it is rags, regift it, repurpose it or recycle it but don’t put it in the trash.

Stroopsoet is the brain-child of me, Susan, born and raised in South Africa and currently living in Amsterdam.
